Play Therapy
The Magic Portal offers children a unique space to explore and integrate the little glitches that sometimes appear in their inner world. The process is transformative, happens in relationship and helps set important building blocks for their future emotional wellbeing and development.
Each session is 45 minutes long and offers an additional 15 minutes for parents to hear about the themes from each session and track progress against identified and agreed upon goals.
-
Agency
With years of experience in community service organisations around the Northern Rivers Cath is comfortable working alongside agencies whether that be NGO’s or government.
Although not registered as an NDIS provider, The Magic Portal offers services to those with either self managed plans or agency managed.

Counselling for Teenagers
The Magic Portal counselling for teenagers follow the same principals that underpin both Adult Gestalt Psychotherapy and Play Therapy. It is a relational and somatic therapeutic experience that follows the young person’s lead into either story or play. You can assure your teen that they will not be grilled with questions they be expected to have answers for.
Therapy is held in the playroom but is not necessarily play based however, being in the playroom allows access to toys, music and art materials in case they are helpful (and they often are). Calling it counselling avoids alienating teens who are already struggling with the strains of adolescence.

Parent & Carer Support
From time to time as parents and carers we are challenged by the things our children and teenagers do. Cath taps into neuroscience, therapeutic parenting theory, trauma theory, clinical experience and her experience as a parent herself, to support you to understand what our children are trying to tell us as well as provide you with some strategies to help at home.
-
Psychotherapy for Adults
Cath’s foundation training is in Gestalt psychotherapist. The therapy is a deeply relational experience and one where together we explore processes and pathways for change through dialogue and present-centered support.
Gestalt psychotherapy has a background in psychoanalysis and Zen Buddhism but in more recent years incorporates neuroscience as well as knowledge that comes from the expansion of research into trauma and its affects. It focuses on the shared relational experiences that are real, unfold in the here and now and offer authenticity and safety.
Therapy rooms are always available, however, moving the session to the outdoors is always an option.

Clinical Supervision
Cath is accredited in providing Clinical Supervision for case workers, clinicians and other therapists who work with children and families.
